The legacy of a fallen Vietnam solider from Tulsa is being honored Thursday.
Joe Thomas was a Tulsan and a medic in Vietnam when he was killed trying to help wounded troops. A section of North Hartford Street has been named ‘Joe Thomas Way’ to honor him.
Family members said they are proud to see Thomas get the credit he deserves.
"I'm just really proud of the things my brother did, and he would be the type of person to do that he would proudly put others before himself,” Joe’s sister Annette Thompson said.
Thomas is the only Tulsan in the last 75 years to receive the U.S. Army Distinguished Cross.
