A five-year-old Rogers County boy is recovering after he was accidentally run over by a lawn mower last month.

A bake sale was held Monday morning at the Rogers County courthouse to raise money and to surprise the boy with a big gift for his bravery.

Antonio Sandoval has gone through more pain and surgeries than most people go through in a lifetime.

Antonio spent nearly three weeks in the hospital after the accident. He suffered injuries to his chest, both legs, both arms and lost his thumb. The sheriff’s office, courthouse employees and community wanted to do something special just for him.

"It's amazing. It is more than you can imagine. I don't really have the words to say but I am so grateful for everything they've done,” said Phedra Wonser-Sandoval, Antonio’s mom.

You wouldn't know Antonio has been through all he has, after seeing the smile on his face at the bake sale. Antonio’s parents said he’s been so strong.

"We felt that if we had a nice bake sale, we could take the proceeds and buy him something special. It's kind of our way of trying to brighten up his day a little bit,” said Major Coy Jenkins with the Rogers County Sheriff's Office.

The bake sale was a complete team effort. The Sheriff's Office and Courthouse employees ran it, but all the baked goods were donated by people in the community.

“If we yell for it and say, ‘hey we want to get something done,’ man, our community is the best community anywhere,” said Jenkins. 

"Sometimes you feel really alone or isolated but when people step in and you see how much they care, it changes your life,” said Wonser-Sandoval.
