Vaccination Rates Rise As New Variant Spreads In Oklahoma

State health leaders say COVID-19 vaccinations are on the rise in Oklahoma as a new variant is starting to appear.

13 cases of the new variant have been found in the Sooner state since June, health leaders say.

Doctor Mary Clarke, President of the Oklahoma Medical Association, says the new variant is showing signs of being very contagious.

Dr. Clarke says that are concerns that the COVID-19 vaccine may not be as effective against the new variant, but that it is too early to tell right now.

The health leaders say it is likely there will be more variants of the virus and urge all who is eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
