'Just Great To See': Christmas Light Decoration At Oklahoma Home Draws Crowds From Across The Country

Christmas may be behind us now, but Christmas lights are still shining bright across Green Country for at least one more week.

Kringle's Christmas Land is nationally recognized. The lights are on at the home in Jenks nightly from 6-10 p.m. through Dec. 31st.

Ben Sumner said a lot of the decorations that make up his display are vintage.

"A lot of them were made in the 60's, 70's, and 80's," he said. "They used to be in old malls all over America."

Sumner has 500 mechanical pieces that he uses to build a reindeer barn and Santa's workshop on the property. He said every year the display changes.

"As soon as the lights come down, I start planning for next year because it is my hobby and it is something I look forward to doing," Sumner said. "Next year we are going to switch out some of the scenes, so it will be all new next year so if you come by this year, make sure to stop by next year as well."

Kringle's Christmas Land is also unique in that it is more than just a drive-by.

"You miss a lot if you just drive by, you have got to get out and check it out and get up close," Sumner added.

Oklahomans are not the only ones fascinated by the home. It won first place on ABC's The Great Christmas Light Fight in 2020. Ever since then the neighborhood has bustled with holiday visitors.

"After being on the Great Christmas Light Fight we have noticed a huge amount of traffic," Sumner said. "We get contacted from people all over the United States, we have a crazy amount of limos and party buses and it is just great to see."

The Sumner's were the first family from Oklahoma to win the competition, but it is not their first time in the spotlight for spectacular Christmas lights.

Sumner said back in the mid-1940s his great-grandfather won best display through a local competition in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, and then his grandfather and his father, too.

He now carries on the Christmas tradition for a much larger audience but never forgets why.

"If we can give those few seconds of Christmas magic and forget the rest of the world and what is going on, that is why we do it," Sumner said.
