A crowd gathered outside the WeStreet Ice Center waiting with excitement to get their first look at the brand-new facility.
“Everybody let's have a great time today and forever at WeStreet Ice Center," said Tulsa Oilers Owner Andy Scurto before cutting the ribbon.
Following cheers from the crowd, the doors opened and members of the Tulsa Oilers team, like general manager Taylor Hall, were there to greet them.
Hall says after more than a year and a half of planning and construction, opening to the public is thrilling.
“Finally, after all this time, to finally get open is incredible,” he said.
The new facility includes 2 skating rinks, a restaurant and an arcade for people to enjoy.
“As you can see, we got a lot of people here loving it, loving the arena, loving to check it out, so from now on, we’re going to be open 365 days so it's pretty special for this part of Tulsa,” Hall said.
Guests who stopped by were treated to a full day of free ice skating to celebrate the milestone.
Visitors like Brittany Rogney and her four kids were quick to lace up their skates.
“I was like ‘I can’t pass up free ice skating’,” she said.
She says a brand new rink means a brand new place for making memories.
"It feels great in here so I’m excited to have this one, especially at the Promenade Mall…kind of bringing it back,” she said.
So she sends her kids off to carve their own memories into the ice for the very first time.
