The Hues for HOPE fundraising gala has played a crucial role in supporting the Global Foundation for Peroxisomal Disorders (GFPD) since its inception in 2017. Madeleine Bryce, Director of Development for Hues for HOPE, recently visited the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch to discuss the organization and its upcoming fundraiser.
After seven successful years in Oklahoma, co-founder Melissa Bryce recognized a significant gap in support for rare disease patients in her home state. In response, Hues for HOPE, Inc. was established in 2023 as a nonprofit dedicated to assisting rare disease patients across Oklahoma.

The organization aims to create a hub of resources for families seeking community support and medical recommendations. This includes facilitating connections to specialists and providing information on local healthcare options.
Rare diseases affect more than 30 million Americans—approximately 1 in 10 people—with over 7,000 different rare diseases identified. Alarmingly, two-thirds of those affected are children. In Oklahoma alone, an estimated 395,000 residents live with a rare disease.

Most rare disorders are genetic, and patients typically endure an average wait of 6 to 8 years before receiving a proper diagnosis. Due to a shortage of specialists in the state, many families must travel out of state for care, resulting in significant financial burdens.
To address these challenges, Hues for HOPE will host a summit to bring together doctors, clinicians, and patients, allowing them to elevate their voices and discuss the type of care needed to improve overall healthcare for Oklahomans.
The organization is also developing "resource one-pagers" to assist families in navigating genetic testing and finding appropriate healthcare providers. Recognizing the gaps in healthcare coverage, Hues for HOPE offers financial support, helping families avoid difficult choices between necessary medical tests and paying their monthly bills.

The upcoming Hues for HOPE art gala, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 11, at WOMPA, promises to be a vibrant celebration of art and community. The event will feature an online silent auction, live painting, a live auction, and musical performances by Jacob Dement and Hook.
Local artists have generously donated their artwork to the auction, which is currently on display at the WOMPA Gallery. All proceeds from the event will support vital programs, including art therapy, respite vouchers, and advocacy initiatives for rare disease patients and their families in Oklahoma.
